Ewan McGregor et Liam Neeson n'ont pas compris la haine des fans de Star Wars envers Jar Jar Binks

Ewan McGregor and Liam Neeson didn’t understand Star Wars fans’ hatred of Jar Jar Binks

It’s been 25 years since the premiere of The Phantom Menace, the start of the George Lucas-led Star Wars prequel trilogy. The 1999 production showed us the past of legendary characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi or Yoda but also featured a good handful.

Without a doubt, the one that has caught the public’s attention the most is Jar Jar Binks and his presence did not arouse applause. The vast majority hated the Gungan’s comedic appearances and the criticism consolidated over the years. However, not everyone agreed to join the wave of rejection.

Liam Neeson rightly mentioned the role played by Ahmed Best and did so to defend him. During an interview with Empire, he detailed his views on the matter, shared by Ewan McGregor.

“Ahmed was so fun and inventive. Ewan and I feel personally hurt and offended by the reaction criticism of the character,” says Neeson, who filmed several scenes with Jar Jar Binks. From his own words, it’s clear that his relationship with Best was really good.

On the other hand, McGregor also expresses words of affection towards actor Qui-Gon Jinn, since Working alongside him took the pressure off when characterizing Kenobi. Additionally, he fondly remembers the moment the Jedi Master died in his arms.

“There are moments in any storyline that become little peaks, that you’re expected to reach emotionally. And this was one of them. I really liked Liam ( Neeson). He’s such a generous, wonderful man. Playing him was super easy, because he was right in that moment with me, and I was there with him.”
